Mobile Van

PlanVan would deploy visual and performing artists during the early construction phase of the Purple Line, screening films made by the community about the neighborhood (with the help of Gandhi Brigade and Docs In Progress), and supporting in-situ artmaking and placemaking. PlanVan is a vehicle to test ideas for permanent public art, public space and cultural amenities in Long Branch.

The PlanVan will park near future Purple Line stops, local businesses, on residential streets, and in the neighborhood’s many parking lots providing shade structures and street furniture to support community engaged planning and visioning. The van will migrate throughout the neighborhood activating under-utilized neighborhood spaces to reach people who are unlikely to participate where they are. While engaging in dialog about the future, residents and other stakeholders will populate underused spaces, tell their stories of migration, and collectively identify what makes this community special.
